Despite the adverse effect on the British climate, the Jet Stream has had a positive effect on the skiing conditions in the Monterosa ski area where snow levels are at their highest for many years. The current position of the Jet Stream has given a slightly milder winter with lots of precipitation and weather fronts moving up from the South of Italy – perfect conditions for snowfalls on the Southern side of the Alps.
Take a look through some of our photo’s from Champoluc over the February half-term.
As predicted, there was a bit of snow in Champoluc over Christmas Day and Boxing Day. At least 60 centimeters fell on Boxing Day at 1,600 metres with a massive 2 metres of snow reported at 3,300 metres above the Alagna Valley!
With the start of the ski season in the Monterosa area less than 2 weeks away, we have been anxiously watching the snow forecast for Champoluc and the surrounding area. After the fantastic conditions we had last year, we are hoping for more of the same!
There has been some light snowfall over the last week, but this week is really where it’s at, with heavy snowfall predicted today. Temperatures over the week will drop to a minimum of -8 on Thursday, with the heaviest snowfall of 38cm’s expected.
Within the next 9 days, we are hoping for at least 64cm’s and we should be able to enjoy excellent skiing conditions for the first weekend of the season. Watch it as it happens on our webcam, this is the view along the main street in the village and onwards to the mountains of the Monterosa range beyond.

The World Snow Awards 2013 recognised companies, brands and organisations across the industry who deserved to be rewarded for their excellence in providing service to the snowsports public. We are very pleased to have been Highly Commended in the World Snow Awards 2013 in the ‘Specialist Tour Operator’ category, after being shortlisted in last year’s awards.
To have our hard work acknowledged by such an influential award within the Snowsports industry is very encouraging.
Our congratulations go to all the award winners, and especially to Olympic ski racer siblings Martin and Graham Bell. The brothers were jointly awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to UK Snowsports at the second annual awards ceremony in London.
As a privately-owned, established operator (now in our 14th season), we pride ourselves in the high standard of service that we offer to our clients, but it is always good to have this commitment rewarded.
We’ve invested substantially in the facilities that we offer in resort again this year with a much larger crèche (the Ski 2 Penguin Club), another new transfer minibus, new decals on some of our other vehicles and lots of new hire skis and boots.
Regular visitors will also notice other subtle improvements to the packaging for your travel documents and stronger luggage labels.
