Sleeps 14, plus space for 2 extra beds if required. This recently renovated mountain refuge has just 4 bedrooms (1 x double/twin with jacuzzi and room for an extra bed and 3 x twin/doubles – all with en-suite bathroom), plus another 3 bedroom apartment (2 x doubles, neither of which can be separated and 1 x room with bunk beds – all sharing 2 bathrooms, plus a kitchen) in a separate building.

The property has a popular restaurant, normally exclusive to hotel guests in the evening, but frequented by skiers during the day.

It is owned and managed by Jean-Claude and his wife Michela, who used to work as part of the Ski 2 Resort Team. One of our few properties actually situated on the slopes, L’Aroula is in a tiny hamlet of ancient farm buildings about two thirds of the way down the Ostafa piste. Accessed by taking the main gondola up from the village and then the Ostafa gondola onwards to 2,420 metres. From here the red piste winds back down to Crest and L’Aroula can be found tucked off the edge of the piste with views down the valley.

Access to Champoluc village in the evening is possible but requires some planning! The main gondola normally runs every evening at 1800, 1930, 2230 and 2330 hours, allowing guests at L’Aroula to spend time in the village in the evening before returning to the hotel. Please note that it would take 30 minutes to walk down from L’Aroula to the top of the gondola and considerably longer to walk back. The hotel might be able to offer ski-doo transfers between L’Aroula and the top of the main gondola, but this cannot be guranteed.

For those that know the resort, L’Aroula is just below the point where Ostafa II piste fisnishes and joins back with Ostafa I.

Suitable for 2 or 3 families, or a small group of friends looking to escape and spend a week in an authentic mountain refuge, L’Aroula is proving to be very popular with Ski 2 guests.

Because of the location of this property, please call our office prior to booking flights to discuss logistics on your arrival and departure day – there may be an additional supplement for the use of a snowcat to transport you and your luggage between the village and this hotel if you choose to arrive or depart at a time during which the cable car isn’t operating. On your arrival day, most clients take the option of purchasing an afternoon ski pass (the ski pass included in your holiday cost starts on the morning of the day after you arrive), enjoying some ski time and then finishing at the hotel, where they are reunited with their luggage. Alternatively you can enjoy some time in Champoluc village on your arrival and then take the 1645 hours gondola up to Crest from where you will be collected by ski-doo and transported with your luggage to the hotel.

  • Arrival Day
We are happy for you to arrive at any time, but please be aware that you will only be able to ski to the property if you arrive in resort before 1600 hours. This will allow you sufficient time to collect any ski equipment that you have hired, to take the 2 gondolas up and then to ski down to L’Aroula. If you arrive in resort after 1600 hours, you will need to collect any hired ski equipment and then travel up the main gondola which operates at 1730, 1800, 1900,2230 and 2330 hours. You and your luggage will then be transferred by ski-doo from the top of the gondola to the hotel.
  • Departure Day
In order to give us sufficient time to transfer you and your luggage down to the main village, we ask that you do not book a flight departure before 1400 hours.

“L’Aroula was an absolute triumph – lovely rustic building, utterly superb food …”
Mr K and friends who stayed at L’Aroula in January 2012.“Thank you for all that you did to make this a fantastic holiday.
It is a great resort with a wonderful expanse of skiing. L’Aroula is a great location and Michela and Jean were excellent hosts. The food was superb. We thought that your lunch voucher system was great and certainly gets everyone into the piste side restaurants. Again, thanks. We will be recommending Champoluc, L’Aroula and Ski 2 to all our friends”

We had a wonderful short stay at l’Aroula. The room was beautiful, the food plentiful and also delicious. The “a la carte” menu does not change but it is very rare to stay on a half board basis and be able to select your dishes from the “a la carte” menu rather than a set menu. We also pre-booked a fondue (made with Fontina cheese) 24 hours in advance which was also served with lovely local ham. We would definitely stay there again and hope that next time we will be able to ski to the piste as it was a little inconvenient to walk up to it but really everything else made up for it! Thank you again ski-2 🙂

We have just returned from staying at L’Aroula, what a fantastic location and holiday.
The service and food were excellent. The rooms were spotless and very well designed and furnished.

We would highly recommend this hotel to anybody wanting a different ski holiday. Priceless.

Ski 2 are also a fantastic company to deal with, everything about the holiday was perfect.

Hotel l’Aroula more than lived up to my dream of an idyllic rustic moutain refuge on the slopes, but with all the luxury of a cosy bedroom, huge jacuzzi bath, well stocked bar and excellent food. Very friendly and hospitable hosts. as other guests have stated, only downside is lack of lounge area, but we were quite happy to spend time in the bar or read in the comfort of our bedroom. It was really magical to sit on the balcony sipping beer watching the sun set over the silent pistes and mountains. As for the starlit skidoo rides, totally thrilling! If you are keen on extending your ski holiday experience beyond the traditional hotel/chalet package, and you love the quiet of the mountains, this place is for you.See you next year 🙂

We had a lovely stay at L’Aroula. The staff were very friendly, lovely mountain food and fun skidoo rides! A great position on the mountain to start the day. As always Ski 2 couldn’t have been more helpful with all our holiday arrangements. See you next year!

L’Aroula is a beautiful little guest house in an idyllic setting, perfect in many ways. Our room was lovely and kept spotlessly clean. Everyone who worked there, both the owners and staff, were kind, friendly and always helpful. However, there were a couple of niggles. One was the lack of anywhere to sit. No sitting room and no chairs in the bedroom. There was never a problem with us using the restaurant where there is wi-fi, but it is a busy restaurant so not somewhere I would chose to go and relax with a book. The other issue is the food, which is rightly praised by other reviewers, but after seeing the same choice of dishes every day for a week it does lose it’s appeal. And some more vegetables would be a welcome addition!

superb place to stay if you like a special, unique property, ski-in-out, gorgeous food. The rooms were cosy and comfortable. Could do with a little lounge area with fire for a social apero/drink but otherwise really recommend for first tracks and peace on the mountain.

L’Aroula was the perfect spot for one week of skiing and getting away from it all. The room gave the perfect mountain chalet hide-away feeling and the hydro-massage bath tub was a luxury we enjoyed after a great day of skiing. The food was wonderful and we had the whole menu to choose from every evening. We might have to come back just to enjoy another panna cotta. Staff were very friendly, too. Overall, we had an excellent ski-break at L’Aroula. It was a real find.

What a perfect spot for a weekend get away. A true ski in, ski out hotel, no walking anywhere with skis! V tranquil and relaxing with great views, food and comfortable rooms. Hotel L’Aroula comes highly recommended.

    An amazing discovery.

Forget the Trois vallee, Espace Killy, Porte du Soleil and all those other overcrowded resorts.

Stay here, 500 metres above the village in an ancient hamlet, clinging to the side of a valley, and 50 metres off-piste.

Once the last lift has closed and there is no-one else about, take a seat on the sunny terrace with a beer in one hand, and try and persuade yourself that this isn’t the best place bar none in the Alps.

We have stayed in many different types of accommodation in many different ski resorts. L’Aroula in Champoluc is without doubt one of our favourites. A very small hotel in a tiny hamlet nestled on the side of the mountain. Excellent food, bedrooms tastefully decorated and most comfortable, and as bonus, ski in ski out . The staff were without exception helpful, enthusiastic and happy to stop and chat. Coupled with the excellent service from Ski2. (in our books Ski2 is the best winter ski holiday company we have ever come across, and the friendliest. )
It was one of our most enjoyable skiing breaks ever.

I almost don’t want to tell people about l’Aroula as I don’t want to let the secret out – it is absolutely wonderful. Really cosy, tastefully furnished rooms and an excellent menu provides luxury on a remote hillside, which is rare to find. Providing snow conditions allow, it is totally ski in and ski out. But don’t miss the last lift or there is hike up hill in ski boots carrying your skis which is an interesting test to one’s fitness.
