Featured among the ‘coolest chalets in the Alps’ in a national newspaper, the Frantze is a very popular place to stay in a stunning location.

Sitting on a short track just off the Pistone piste which runs from the top of the main gondola in Champoluc down to the village centre, the Rascard Frantze is a wonderful blend of traditional pine and stone with luxurious features. What makes the chalet extra special is that access is via the main gondola so you’ll be skiing from the minute you arrive in Champoluc and your luggage will be taken by skidoo. Francesca, the manager, will be there to welcome you with a hot tea or a liqueur and you can enjoy the roaring open fire and wonderful food that Rascard Frantz is renowned for.

Rascard Frantz is available to book by the room or exclusive hire for larger groups or families. We recommend that anyone looking to stay at the chalet can comfortably ski a red run as access to Champoluc village is by the Pistone piste. The main gondola runs until 11:30pm every evening leaving you plenty of time to explore the village, its restaurants and nightlife before you head back in the evening.

  1. Peter McKenzie on

Just back from our second stay at Rascard Frantze and it was even better than the first! Now 68, I have skied for the past 37 years and include 18 full winter seasons running my own ski chalet hotel in the French Alps. To be honest, I am beyond the Apres-ski/nightlife aspect of a ski holiday, it holds no interest, but now I rather look for great accommodation and food, wonderful service and a relaxed atmosphere to completely escape the rigours of a busy life back in UK. Francesca, and her family, who run the Rascard Frantze provide a complete antidote and tick every single one of my boxes. The location (given that you can ski a bit) is perfect, the building just beautiful, the food exquisite without being presumptuous, the house wine great value and there is a good selection of premium wines, many from the region. But it is the welcome and family aspect that Nicky and I treasure most. We are treated like long lost friends. The intimate dining room allows you to meet with the other guests and socialise as much or as little as one wishes. Nothing is too much trouble and the sense of isolation at night is very appealing. We have said that we will go back for the same week each year and fully intend to do so. The Rascard itself is a fabulous old barn, beautifully converted and extremely comfortable. Everybody involved obviously loves it and their part in making it a success. It will not suit everybody, but if it suits you, you will not want to go anywhere else. The Ski-2 contribution should not be underestimated either. Their input makes the whole holiday seamless and hassle-free.

Our stay at the Frantze was excellent and made even more special by it’s position on the edge of the piste with spectacular views of the valley. This beautiful old building, lovingly restored by Francesca and her family is stylish but above all warm, cosy and welcoming. From the fantastically comfortable bed to the homemade cakes and compotes, it is a joy to return to at the end of a long day skiing on the perfectly groomed pistes of the Monte Rosa.
Nothing is too much trouble for Francesca and her team and we left feeling totally relaxed and certainly well fed after a fabulous week at this special place.

  3. Brian Watt on

We once again had a most wonderful stay at Rascard Frantze. Despite the lack of new snow, this was an extremely enjoyable visit to the Champoluc area. The pistes that were open were maintained very well and the skiing was great fun with not too many people on the slopes. What made the holiday, however, was Francesca’s whole team and her generous and genuine warmth and hospitality. Everything from the welcome to the departure was outstanding. The New Years Eve dinner and spectacular entertainment were superb, with the home made blackcurrant liqueur providing another wonderful memory. The fantastic chocolate cakes for the two birthdays on 1 Jan were exceptionally good and delighted everyone! The time flew by and, as always, we were very sad to leave. Exceptional!!!

I stayed at the Rascard Frantze in March 2014. It’s mountainside location the Monterosa ski area, above the village of Champoluc, is just off the main piste, and is ideally placed for those wanting easy slope access and peacefulness. It’s a short ski down from the Crest gondola top station, with your luggage arriving a short time later by skidoo.
This family run hotel has been lovingly restored to the original structure of interlocking beams and stone, by the owners. The restaurant is set in the former animal quarters; the first-floor contains a sitting room and sauna, with the bedrooms on the upper floors. All nine rooms have chunky wooden walls and floors, red and white fabrics; a kitchenette, a powerful shower, a desk and chair, good bedside lights and storage and a television.
The stone-and-wood restaurant is an atmospheric place to enjoy the locally produced and home-cooked food that is typical of this district. For breakfast there’s fruit, yogurt, pastries and eggs / bacon cooked to order.
It is quite simply a fantastic place to stay, where the staff are friendly and helpful, but be quick, it gets booked up well in advance. Add to this the first rate, high quality service offered Ski2 and you have as near a perfect ski holiday as possible.

Another fantastic week at the Rascard Frantze with Francesca and family – we couldn’t wait to come back this year, and no surprise have booked again for 2015! Such a lovely welcome and it yet again the food and wine were superb, and nothing is too much trouble in terms of service from all the lovely people there. The evening tranquility and unique setting make this a holiday location to treasure. Having left after our week, we walked back down next day from the cable station for lunch and a last sunbathe, 2 hours of pure indulgence. Can’t wait to return! Best ski location ever.

Simply wonderful. If you are a fan of ski-in, ski-out the Rascard is the place for you. If you love beautiful architecture and a stunning setting its the place for you too. When the slopes close and you are left up there on the mountain anticipating another of Francesca’s wonderful meals while you relax in the lounge with a Bombardino following a refreshing sauna its just total relaxation. – What more can I say!

Yet another wonderful week for us at the Rascard Frantze with Francesca and her fantastic staff – how lucky we were to also have superb weather. The food, wine and service were excellent and the setting and rooms are unique with a feeling of being at a home from home. It shows how much we love being there that we walked down for lunch on our departure day to make the most of the fabulous setting, company and ambience.

Just returned from our 3rd visit to Rascard Frantze and everytime we enjoy our stay even more. The accommodation, food and service is of a high standard. Rascard Frantze is cosy & intimate but also fun as everybody is always friendly and in good spirits. Francesca and her family have created a real gem. Everybody loves Rascard Frantze so much that when people leave you nearly always hear them say “See you next year” which says it all!!!

Had a wonderful stay at rascard frantze. The staff are all so welcoming and accommodating you really do almost feel as if you are staying with friends rather than at a hotel. Went so much out of their way to accommodate my awkward dietary requirements and even went as far as translating one of their recipes for me when I’d commented how nice it was. Don’t be put off by location/access- I had only had one week experience skiing 6 years prior to holiday and managed fine. Would definitely stay again and would definitely recommend it to others without a doubt.

This was our second visit to Rascard Frantze. We were made to feel so welcome the first time and second time was like we were long lost friends! Francesca and her family are so lovely- definitely ensuring you have a relaxing time after a hard day on the slopes! The food is delicious and they coped so well with a member of our party with a food allergy, ensuring she didn’t miss out! Beware of Francesca’s mint and alcohol soaked sugar cubes! We could not recommend Rascard Frantze more, but please keep it a secret!

  12. Penny Thorne on

This is a real home from home! Francesca and family could not be more welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. It was a real adventure to stay here, a delightful setting with a bit of challenge thrown in! The food was delicious with a home rather than hotel flavour that beats anywhere else of the many places I’ve stayed before when skiing. We would definitely hope to come back and stay here again, so peaceful and friendly

This is a very special place. Food is fantastic, the children were made very welcome and that first run down the mountain at the start of the day before anyone else is on the piste makes you feel very special. Francesca and her family are wonderful hosts. I have stayed in other hotels in Champloluc and this is certainly my favourite!

  14. Chris and Shinaine on

Quite simply the best hotel in 50 years of skiing!
Magical location, charming family, excellent food and accommodation.

A wonderful hotel just off the piste, we always receive such a warm welcome from Francesca and her team. Nothing is ever too much trouble, the children feel at home whenever we stay and the food is delicious.
